Bondi Rescue Lifeguards - TV Series
Bondi Rescue is an Australian TV series broadcast by Channel Ten. It follows the daily activities of the professional lifeguards who patrol Sydney's Bondi Beach (the world's busiest beach).
First broadcast in 2006, the show was devised by lifeguard Ben Davies, and is narrated by Andrew Günsberg. Celebrities like David Hasselhoff, Kelly Slater, Hugh Grant, Rowan Atkinson, Paris Hilton, Richard Branson and Russell Crowe have occasionally made guest appearances. Bondi lifeguards perform thousands of rescues each summer, as well as dealing with incidents such as missing children, shark sightings, jellyfish stings, inebriated beachgoers, accidents and other injuries.
They're among the most highly-trained, motivated and hard-working rescuers in the world, and they perform their duties with an Aussie spirit of fun, competition, mateship and loyalty. Episodes often reflect incidents that occur on busy days like Christmas Day, New Year's Day and Australia Day. Noteworthy incidents at neighbouring Bronte and Tamarama Beaches are also featured. The rescue boards and jet skis used by Bondi lifeguards have been fitted with cameras for dramatic close-up footage. And on some occasions, cameramen also accompany the lifeguards while they conduct their rescue operations. |
